Got a call from the insurance company...
$2,000 is the offer.

I was really hoping for 3k or more.. actual OOP expenses is over $1200.

If I don't accept, then I have to fill out paperwork for them to get medical records, etc.

Flipside is, going to a lawyer - I have a coworker who worked w/ one earlier this year, and got resolution in under 2 months. Lawyers take 1/3 of the final amount.

My concern is that 1) I am still doing stretches for this, and will be for another 1-2 months; as well as massage therapy. Due to all the time burned for PT, I haven't seen a chiropractor yet, and I'm a little concerned not seeing one - to make sure that spinal-wise, I'm OK. But I only have so much time off from work; and K's got school coming up - w/ Dr stuff related to that, as well as reading assessment.

Thoughts, opinions? I do have major bills to pay, since ex hasn't paid his legal fees yet, and PT work just recently started picking up.

On another note:
The initial eggs hatched...I have a matching pair - maybe I'll be luck & they'll be able to breed.

Mah scroll of eggs & hatchlings

And lastly: BSG goodies!! from SDCC - SciFi channel recorded their panel (all 1 hr of it - yay!) - hosted by Kevin Smith. Warning - NSFW audio - Smith has a frakking mouth on him.

Speaking from unfortunate experience (last year) go for the best offer you can get. If your oop expenses are that high, then I'd suggest getting a lawyer and trying to go for more! But then.. if they take a third... is it worth it? Do they offer a free consultation or anything where they could estimate what they think they could get you?

And *pout* I still haven't managed to get any eggs...

Well; I called the PI lawyer mentioned above - he's taken care of the co-worker's family members for almost 10 years.

He took the info - and confirmed that the insurance company is playing games. At 2,000 - that just barely covers my actual expenses - including the actual medical costs, not just my co-pays (which the ER visit is probly something like $500+ on its own). I don't get bills/statements on this medical plan, so I got to check.

So in the end, I may not end up w/ any more $, but at least I can rest easier knowing for sure.

edit: checked my Health Claims - yup, minus the last PT session, my medical costs are $2200+; add $200 for the last session. AND the lawyer advises checking w/ my PCP about an orthopedic referral...sigh...
