For a company in Chantilly; the base/home office in NY has gotten selected as a best place to work; and awarded Family-friendly by the NY-Soc Human Res Mgmt for 2 years

My interview is 8:30am Friday am... so I can see just how bad traffic is likely to be. If I'm late or just squeaking into the interview... well, that'll probably decide things anyhow.

They didn't balk at the number i gave for salary... so we'll see.
i don't normally pipe up in my LJ about politics, but given that I am a minority religion, I have *issues* with the GOP... glad to see the "average" American isn't the only one...

Colin Powell endorses (but not stumping for) Obama

I am glad to hear this news. It's good that while Powell adressed the race = vote issue, he did not harp on it - instead pointing to his opinion while McCain is a good choice, Palin & the politics of the GOP is not. Personally, I think McCain is the better choice - but since both Palin and the GOP's politics came part & parcel - I am running in the opposite direction (I don't think that Obama is bad, per se - but a little more experience on Senate committees would be nice - but that's what an experienced VP & Cabinet is for!).

Really - when did we suck out & make it that the Pres & VP had to be from the same party? talk about *having* to reach across the aisle to get things done... sigh...
The local Business reporter emailed "me" (as part of a reader feedback panel thing), asking if due to the economy, I'd had to cut back or modify my expenses. To which I commented about having to hold 3 jobs as a single mom, with limited options to move in my area - I make too much for most of the complexes around here - they're "tax credit" aka Income Restricted. I make too much for most, yet at the one I am living at, 45+% of my primary income post-tax is going for rent alone.

Anyhow, apparently I have enough of a sob story - or am like enough other folks... I've been selected to get my picture taken & used for the article!! They want a pic of me @ my apt as well as at the 2nd job *at night*.

At least I made sure to not throw the ex under the bus - he's making the effort to be helpful w/ childcare on wkends I can get extra shifts... only took him almost 32 months...but he's trying.

And, since my boss knows I'm looking, she'll try to work in that I'm trying to get ONE job that will pay the bills. :)

*send happy thoughts*
Saw this Sunday w/ K. Not bad. If you have kids, it's worth the $ - cheap show or matinée; otherwise, I'd recommend DVD.

Not bad; makes for a good intro to the series coming this fall. The VA for Obi-Wan was *very* good - if I hadn't known better, I would have thought Ewan MacGregor had reprised his role.

Monday night, went to Barnes & Noble in Clarendon - Sherrilyn McKenyon was there for a book signing for the newest Dark-Hunter book, Acheron. If you like paranormal romance, w/ a different take on vamps & lycans, it's worth a look. Do NOT start w/ Acheron though - while an excellent book, the 2nd half will not make much sense if you haven't read any others. Had a good Q&A session. Luckily, they took the line-numbers in batches - so since I was #82 (they had 123 I was told), I was able to putter around, look at some other books & get some chai well before I needed to get in line. Won a nifty bag; that plus my extra copy of Acheron is going on eBay soon. A 2nd copy may go up as well, closer to Xmas. Long night though - had to make up 17 invitations for K's bday party. I copped out - I printed out blocks w/ the info, and taped them into the invites.

At least that's done. Now to figure out snacks & non-water games for the kiddies. Anyone know of some good 5/6 y/o party games?

And the daily clicks )

K's foot that he hurt bouncing around on Sun nite (liek a normal 6 y/o) was still hurting him thurs am. Bad enough he didn't want to go swimming. So off to daycare, me to work, til Dr office opened.
The sorta-dodge? I had to immediately turn back around & go back to Wdbrg, for Dr appt @ 10. Luckily, my mom was able to re-arrange her schedule to p/u K & meet me @ the Dr office. Construction on 95 I vaguely recalled did get me slowed down, and I wouldn't have made it in time.

Examined, poss stress fracture - off the Xray. 1/2 hr to fax, so we go to lunch. Finish lunch (1hr later), call Dr office - no xray, they'll request. I call @ 4pm, ask the Dr who saw K what she saw - she still doesn't have Xrays. She calls me back shortly; his foot's sprained - the other dodge.

Which would have been bad enough - except it's his dad's weekend - so I had to call the ex & explain what was going on. The putz sounded like either he wasn't getting why I was calling, or that I was incompetent. ah welp.

Oh well.

Now I gotta wait til little guy gets home Sun night - so I can name & breed mah dragons!
They're a-growin! )

Thanks for the clicks!

grrr

got home yes'day - received a Txt Msg on my cell phone - didn't recognize the number. After txt'ing back "Who are you?" - I discovered that my ENTIRE address book had gone poof!

This after the spontaneous reboots that have been occuring w/ more frequency of late...

Luckily, the phone is under warranty - for 1 more day - so I reported the problem just in time. So now I have to go to a warranty store elsewhere in Wdbrg to get a replacement.

At least eggs are hatching...
Thanks for the clicks!

They're a-growin! )
ergh - things to do:
Click my eggs
More fun stuff )

OMG - I get to have fun this wkend - Mummy 3 w/ K & friends! (too bad it's starting to sound like it sucks).

Help a friend's eggs not die )

Just discovered snap links for FF - Oh MAN is it NICE!! (esp for mass-clicking dragons & eggs or AintItCoolNews).
Time for the periodic "please click here": My eggs

edit 2:00pm - got my first adult - yay!

and figuring out which Ortho dr to go to, to make sure back will be OK long-term. And have to make appts for K's school-physical as well as dentist for both him & myself. Which should be fun, since the only ppl who seem to go regularly to the dentists near me, theirs doesn't take my insurance.

sigh...
Got a call from the insurance company...
On another note:
The initial eggs hatched...I have a matching pair - maybe I'll be luck & they'll be able to breed.

Mah scroll of eggs & hatchlings

And lastly: BSG goodies!! from SDCC - SciFi channel recorded their panel (all 1 hr of it - yay!) - hosted by Kevin Smith. Warning - NSFW audio - Smith has a frakking mouth on him.
Well, it's been a fun week - wake up w/ back pain; most of the workday = pain; go to bed w/ some level of pain...

Went to Patriot Sports Health & Physical Therapy -

Good news - doesn't look like any lasting damage done.

Bad news - my L4 & 5 deep muscles, aka "Guard muscles", apparently didn't get the "ALL CLEAR" message the rest of my muscles got - even w/ the Flexoril & Vicodin knocking on the door.

So, I have to go 2x/wk for 2-4wks; stretches, heat, electric stimulation, and some massage. W/ stretches in between @ home.

Work is just SOOOOO thrilled - at least I was able to get appts @ the front or back-end of the day, so won't impact the office as bad as it could... though it's still 1.5-2hrs a day blown...

Damn insurance better F* well have a good offer - I'm using up ALL of my sick & personal leave doing this.

Called Friday to set up a rental for Sat - when I'd planned to drop off my car to get fixed from the accident 3 wks ago.

Called Sat, when I discovered the place I'd chosen was closed on Sat.

Left work 1+ hr early, to head S to do the car thang. It'll cost more than insurance originally estimated - exactly how much, the shop isn't sure... but the adjustment will probly add 2-3 days to the work/needed rental.

The Rental Saga )

Gah!!!
Well, it was the 2nd - but first where I had the time-liberty to look around & see what all the fuss & exitement was about. I worked down the road from the Wegman's in FFX for 2 yrs, but never had a need to go into there.

MEAD!! they carry MEAD!! Chaucer's, and Irish one I've had @ the VA Ren faire, and another. So now we don't have to drive to FFX to p/u Mead for Sabbats.

Also had Sutter Home Muscato wine, in big & little bottles - for better prices than Giant (Big was only like $2 more than the SALE price @ Giant). Also tried Barefoot vineyards' Muscato - $4.49 for the 750ml bottle - drinkable, but not quite as smooth as SH's Muscato.

Next time gotta check out their wine cooler/cider options.

Looked around @ Food as well. They had a few items I either had only seen @ Target/WM, but were missing others (Febreze Laundry Odor Remover - works great vs cat pee for bed linens - WM & commissary). Others never seen (mint Choc brownie mix from Pillsbury XD).

Interesting stuff. Pricewise, looks to be comparable w/ Giant/Safeway - will have to look more closely when I don't have a 5 y/o misbehaving. Sale prices looks to be *good*.

Well crap

Back's still bothering me. Twinges come & go. So I called the Dr's office - I'm getting a referral for Physical Therapy.

Which sucks. And which means that compensation/settlement offer is adding up XP
Friday, I get the call from Allstate - they'll accept liability.

This am, I get their assessment - $1300; about $300 parts, rest is (mostly) paint labor.

Got a co-worker to recommend 2 places in Wdbrg he's used over the years, and a 3rd near Garrisonville his new wife has used for about 8 by her & her 2 daughters (who are a bit under my age). So I'll call them tomorrow & see what rough estimate they can give based on the line items - maybe I can save some $

Back is doing better - it comes & goes now. I'm giving it til mid-week. Then I'll have to think about another Dr visit to get P.T. referral - wheeeee

And the ex is getting re-hitched over Father's Day weekend (I think it is). His new bride's - definitely at least 3 baby daddies - she's been pregnant 10 times & only carried 4 to live-birth. Of those 4, 1 was given to family to raise, and the other - the boy I knew of - was taken by his father & she has visitation...

Great family to bring our son into, F.

And K went to a blessing for his sister - at a LDS church... had so much "fun" he informed me tonight that "God has a father"... I had to correct him, and mention the Goddess...

Thank goodness Midsummer is around the corner - looks like I'll have to start the counter-programming a bit earlier than I'd planned.

*edit - thanks for ppl going LTS?? what church izzat?-oops
Well, the Flexoril (muscle relaxer) I've been taking @ night, since Saturday @ the hospital, has made the neck & shoulders feel fine.

However, can't say the same for my lower back. It started aching late Sun pm or early Mon am, and has been getting progressively worse.

So left work early to get checked out - Dr (well, RN) was surprised that my back hadn't bothered me at first. So I have 600mg motrin, and more Flex, and some Vic. If it doesn't improve in a week, I'll have to go back & get a referral for a Physical Therapist (if anyone knows in the NoVa, esp Woodbridge or Arlington area, pls send me info).

Just gets better & better.

Oh - and not that it's surprising; but called ex to let him know what'd happened - as far as K being in car - so he'd know K wasn't making up a story. He was perturbed that I hadn't informed him sooner, and no concern for me or the safety/drivability of the car - which is how his child gets to school. *sigh* Even after letting him p/u K an extra evening so K could see his baby sister. *bleh*

At least I'll see Indiana Jones w/ L & my parents.
Was up to date when I left the office Fri afternoon @ 4pm... read Fri nite til 10:30ish...

I log on tonite to read for the first time (was a fairly good girl @ work today hehe): I'm scrolling back to .../friends?skip=240 before I hit new stuff....

Hmmm - filters may become my friend for a few days...

And if I'm a beta for you - please, give me thru the weekend to get your chappy's back to you. I've been sleep deprived for 2 weeks (quantity of sleep means squat w/o quality). And this residual ache from the accident is making me feel like :p

Saturday, May 24 - 5:32pm EST - heading westbound on Rt 50 towards Rt28 to have a nice cookout w/ [profile] tfrework  and [profile] penguinet . When the 3rd car back, in the left lane (I'm in the middle) puts on his blinker & proceeds to come over...

I hit my horn but guess what??

let's see how this BS pans out...
For Mother's Day, my mom asked if I had wanted to buy any jewelry from AVON (which I sell) that I'd been too broke for. Yes, there was some. 2 min later, she calls back & asks if I rather have jewelry or a hair cut (we go to same stylist). I opted for the cur, as I can always (in theory) get the jewelry later.

So I was lucky enough to get an appt 2 days later. We went to Sakura Japanese steakhouse (hibachi grill) for lunch, then off to the stylist.

I got 8+" cut off - to donate to  Pantene Beautiful Lengths. This is the program Hilary Swank cut her hair on "Oprah" for, about 3 wks ago, similar to Locks of Love (10" min, prefer 12" - Hell will freeze over b4 I have that much length on my head).

Pics of me post-cut. Pls excuse my goof-ball of a child - really, he was not doing drugs prior to this photo.

Wheeeee!
Seriously.

2:17am: My 5 y/o son came into my room saying he'd had a nightmare.

2:4xam: My son throws up his dinner in his sleep on my bed.

Which of course, no longer has the water-proof mattress pad on it, cuz my cat doesn't want to pee on it anymore, and my child no longer pees at night (and those things get hot)

3:40am: Several towels & a sheet set rinsed out in the kitchen sink later (and a thrown-away pillow), I leave a message for work.

Which has a 3-day (Wed is day 2) of a 25 person review meeting on our biggest (ppl wise, & hi on the $ wise) contract. Which has b-fast & lunch being catered in.

And I'll be late - cuz dragging my sorry self in w/ 2.5 + *howevermanyhoursofsleepigetfromthispointonward* = sleepy driver w/ 1hr one-way commute.

Seriously - I need to find me a sign. The Cosmos hates me, and gave me to Murphy - and didn't bother to send me the memo.

And anyone got any ideas on why everytime this poor child pukes in his sleep, it's always after he'd eaten Mac & Cheese? (doesn't come up everytime he eats it - but everytime this has happened, same food is involved)
♠ List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.

Ergh....

1) I must have a book with me - no matter what I'm doing, or who I'm with.

2) Said book will be popped open whenever I have a moment to read... which amazes tfrework & co. to no end.

3) The cleanliness of my home is directly proportional to my stress level - the cleaner it is, the more stress (especially anger) I have. (or I've just hit my mess-threshold)

4) Since I'm female, and looks like I'll only have my one child - a delightful boy - in this lifetime, I am SOOOOO glad that I have "guy" interests to share with him. I have gleefully converted him into a fan of TFs (G1 & movie), TMNT, Gargoyles, and Voltron. His father has gotten him into D&D - currently the cartoon, but as he gets older, he will be initiated into the crazy wonderful world of P&P RPGs (he already plays WoW).

5) I have some knowledge about far too many things - as evidenced that people in my immediate circle dread playing Trivia Pursuit w/ me, and I can usually hold my own w/ the NTN/bar trivia games.

6) Am amazed that I have been this blessed w/ the family & friends that I do have. This past 1.5 yrs, especially (since my split), I just don't know what I would do w/o them all. And I need to take more time to thank them & do something for them in return...

7) I get gung-ho into a hobby or interest for about 6 mo to a yr, then don't touch it for months on end. Unfortunately, I seem to get into things that the "time-off" makes it hard to get back into (WHF), or it would just take too damn much work to get back to the old status (DAoC & WoW).

Whew - that's done!
